Here's another thought on this. And I offer it only because I resist any
efforts to make any political opinion simple.
We are to see Christ in the neighbor who is the illegal immigrant. But we
are also to see Christ in the neighbor whose life is affected by illegal
immigration,. So I have an obligation to consider what happens to a societ=
y
where there is open violation of the law. I have an obligation to consider
the consequences to those who are taxed to provide the cost of social
services, medical care, law enforcement, etc. And I have an obligation to
consider what happens to the social fabric when people are vulnerable to
abuse because they are illegal.
I will not defend the Arizona law. It looks like political theater not an
attempt to create a more just and civil society. And to me, that's the
tragedy of our current situation. We seem more interested in how we look
than in what is just for my neighbor.
PS there is also a distinction between how I treat an individual who stands
before me and what laws best serve a society.

As you know, this year's May march will take on a very powerful tone du=

three factors: the most prominent is what happened in Arizona
last week: the introduction of Arizona's
SB 1070, the law that will legitimize the practice of unreasonable search a=

=A0 The second factor: the introduction of a conceptual framework on compre=

As clergy, we are morally outraged at the unjust and inhumane treatment of
immigrants in Arizona.
=A0History calls us to respond in with powerful, faithful witness. Silence

television personalities such as Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and JD Hayworth h=

I am imploring that you participate in the May 1 march and rally. =A0We wil=
