"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get =20
away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take =20
a real rest. Walk with me and work with me=97watch how I do it. Learn =20
the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-=20
fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely =20
and lightly."

Hi all! In the midst of many exciting new beginnings this fall, it's =20
easy to get caught up in the many things we must DO...and forget the =20
effects of stress, anxiety, or mere weariness. We have available to =20
us great support in Christ to truly live freely and lightly. I give =20
to you a prayer from a current favorite read by Edward Hays in Pray =20
All Ways: a book for daily worship using all your senses. His =20
chapter on "Hurrying--a hindrance to the Holy" ends with a prayer I =20
have found useful pastorally and personally. God's speed to you =20
all. I look forward to seeing you next week as we slow down the pace =20
at Asilomar. Keep in mind this prayer as you prepare for getting =20
away this week. :) Dawn T.

A Prayer for Someone in a Hurry

Lord, help me this day to slow down. It will not be easy for you--=20
even you--to slow me down for I seem caught in the traffic-rush of =20
life. I rush through my prayers, hurry through my meals and run from =20
one thing to another. But I have faith that my choices and your =20
graces together can change my racetrack style of life.

I know, Lord, even before you whisper in my ear, that you are waiting =20
for me in the slower, quieter things of life. Teach me, Lord of =20
Life, how to eat my food with awareness; show me how to walk =20
deliberately rather than to run constantly, how to truly visit and by =20
present rather than merely exchanging words.

Help me, Divine Friend, to take my time in praying to you. Show me =20
that it is good just to "waste" time with you just enjoying a sunset =20
or a friendship. With your presence and assistance, I will attempt =20
to do all things with mindfulness: slowly, carefully and fully aware =20
of what I am doing.

Then, with your grace, I shall find you, my God, in those unhurried =20
and mindful moment. Amen (said very slowly)
