Hi -

On Saturday October 17th we will gather electronically as a synod,
employing the same technology as we used last year for the online
synod assembly, to hold this year's District and Conference Meetings.
Our conference, the Santa Clara Valley Lutheran Parish, will meet
with the other congregations of Districts C and D at Grace Lutheran
Church, located at 3149 Waverly Street in Palo Alto.

More information follows below, but first a plea:  We need an
accurate headcount for lunch at this gathering.  Please make sure
that our conference secretary <randy_presuhn@mindspring.com> receives
the names of all the people, including clergy, who plan to attend.

All are welcome at this event.  In particular, you, your congregations'
leadership, and your "voting members" should find it helpful.  There
are to be networking opportunities for interest groups, such as
congregational treasurers. A highlight of the day will be participation
in a video forum on cultural and immigration issues as they impact our
ministry as congregations here in the Sierra Pacific Synod, led by the
new President of Pacific School of Religion, Dr. David Vasquez-Levy, a
rostered pastor of the ELCA.

A description of his presentation:
  Out of the Waters -- Whether moving to a new community for a job,
  across the state to pursue an education, or in search of better
  opportunities across the world, we live in a world that is constantly
  "on the move."   Join David Vasquez-Levy, President at Pacific School
  of Religion in Berkeley California, as we explore how the biblical
  stories of migration can shape our engagement of a world on the move.

   12 noon =E2=80=93 Lunch (We need headcounts!)

         and discussion of conference reorganization
   2:00 pm =E2=80=93 On our way rejoicing!

There will be no need for a formal registration process for the District
gathering other than to get headcounts of how many will be coming for lunch=
,
but we really do need those headcounts, so as soon as it becomes available,
send the information to <randy_presuhn@mindspring.com>!  At the Conference
meeting, we will have a sign-in sheet for clergy and congregations' "voting
members" in case we need to conduct any votes on conference business.
