Thanks Bob for this inspirational reflection and commitment. I will hold yo=

I have found it difficult to settle on a day, and having a granddaughter ha=
s also challenged that. When I am with her, I really get a day off! She tak=
es total attention -- no emails or phone calls or texts. However, her sched=
ule and her parents needs vary from week to week, so there are many weeks t=
hat Jim goes alone to see her as I am already booked up. This booked-upness=
 is a major reason I am ready to retire. I no longer want to say "I am too =
busy to be with her."=20

A Reflection on the "Day Off"=20

Having dinner with a colleague recently, we got to talking about how we do =
with taking a day off each week. How important is that? How "day offy" is o=
ur day off? What if we just answer a few emails or do a little planning?=20

We don't want to fall into a legalistic trap where we don't give ourselves =
some flexibility. That being said, what if we saw the gift of a sabbath as =
an act of love for our congregations, our families, ourselves, and for God?=
 Maybe it would help some of my inflated ego to die off. Maybe it would ope=
n the door for other people to move forward in service.=20

This email is an accountability tool. I'm going to try to do a better job o=
f making a clean break on my day off with the hope that I will be more ener=
gized for the rest of the week.=20
