Move on!

Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians'?
It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the
desert!" Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you
will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you
see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need
only to be still." Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to
me? Tell the Israelites to move on." Exodus 14:12-15

The Israelites were between a rock and a hard place - the Red
Sea before them and the Egyptian army behind, ready to swoop down and
overpower them. They were sitting ducks. Of course, in their panic they
turned on Moses. And Moses said, "Stand firm. God will save you." God
said, "Move on!!" Move on? Where? Into the sea?

Of course, you know the story. And in this time of economic
chaos, you might also find yourself between a rock and a hard place. The
message today for you is that you don't need to panic. You don't need to
find someone to blame. Stand firm in your faith! God will fight for you.
Don't look back; move on!

We have a powerful God, who intervenes on our behalf. And along
the way He calls for faith. As Moses parted the Red Sea, the people had to
get on their feet and move on between the walls of water. There was no
going back. They moved on - every step, a step of faith; every step, a step
away from fear. And finally, they moved on to the other side, dry and in
the clear, while God fought against their enemy through the power of the
waters. If God has done it before, He can do it again. Move on! is a call
to trust God.

Let us pray.

Mighty God, sometimes I look around me and wonder what I can
trust. I thought I could trust so many things - but I find I am walking,
often, on sinking sand. Sometimes I don't know where to turn.

Lord, I want to trust in You. I want to stand firm in the
conviction that You will fight for me. It's hard, Lord. The enemy is
behind and the seas are in front of me. Increase my faith! Help me to walk
forward at your word. Bring me to the safety of firm ground. Remind me of
the way you have saved your people in the past, that I may believe in you
again, today. Amen.
