Dear Friends,

Let me begin by thanking parents, staff, neighbor, church members and all p=
ersons who were directly or indirectly impacted by the tragic event that oc=
curred on the Church property last week. The event was not directly nor ind=
irectly related to the Church nor anyone associated with the programs at th=
e Church. Your patience and fortitude to hold together through a difficult =
week was most honorable and a wholesome sign of the strength of community. =
Thank you also for your notes and words of encouragement and support.

The police report determined that the incident related to family issues and=
 not a random act of violence. Our prayers and concerns are now focused tow=
ard the family who mourns the loss of loved ones. They are being comforted =
by friends and other family members from near and far. Our prayers and symp=
athy are extended to them as they reorganize their lives for the future.

The grieving family would have been deeply saddened to learn that the tragi=
c incident had negatively impacted other families and the life and service =
of a Church dedicated to assisting people to heal, grow and build life in c=
onstructive ways.

This was one occasion where all were called upon to show leadership within =
their families and within the community.  Your determination to continue wi=
th life growing activities for yourself and your children was an affirming =
sign of commitment to life itself. This does not make for great news media =
drama but it is the sign of the commitment each one of you has toward life.

I thank you also for the opportunity to get to know you better. It was help=
ful to talk individually to many of you and to learn of your life story. No=
thing is ever gained by running away from challenging situations. Our commu=
nity grows stronger when we hold together, talk to each other and encourage=
 each other through challenges.=20

Christian churches believe that God is active in the world in many ways and=
 does only good things. God acts through each of us too as we learn and gro=
w and find our life purpose. The bad and tough times come to all of us. The=
 wisdom of life is drawn from weathering those experiences. They serve as t=
he opportunity to gain confidence and strength and learn how to move forwar=
