Hey friends,
There is a woman who was fleeing domestic abuse - her arm was broken by the
man she was living with. She might've called your church a couple weeks
ago. When she called CGS a couple of our parishoners offered to put her in
their guest room for the month of July.
She's been good here, done some work for us housekeeping (she's great!) and
gotten a monthly bus pass from us. I've tried to help her find permanent
housing and connect with supportive services.
She's found permanent housing with her cousins in LA when a room opens up
in their house on September 1st. But unfortunately, our parishoners have
other guests coming and a trip in August and can't house our new friend
next month.
Our friend doesn't have a lot of personal resources to live on her own.
She's been raised in and lived in abusive and neglectful homes and families
all her life and her problem solving skills seem to reflect a lack of
confidence that makes it difficult for her to care for herself. She's kind,
and considerate, non-violent and clean from any drugs or alcohol.
I wonder if you have anyone in your community who can give her a place to
rest her head for the month of August - or even a part of it. I'll be
asking my congregation the same thing as well and hopefully we can find
shelter for her this month.
I know that she's one of many in this situation but you know - we do what
we can when we can. If not this one, then which one? Amirite?
Thanks, friends!
Peace be with you,
Manda
