Dan Selbo offers the following in our series of daily devotions:
*Bible Reading: Philippians 4:8

*"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy - think about these things."*
It has become a one-word saying that can mean all kinds of things.
"Whatever!" It can be a word of encouragement. It can be a word of praise.
It can be a word of agreement. It can also be a word of disgust and
annoyance and disagreement. "Whatever" has become a word filled with all
kinds of meanings.
The apostle Paul used that word, "whatever," in writing to the believers in
Philippi. He was writing to encourage then in their faith. He was writing to
praise them for what they had done. And he was writing to remind them of the
things in this life that are worthy of our time and energies.
Whatever points us toward Jesus, Paul says, is worth following. Whatever
lifts up people, Paul tells us, is worth saying. And whatever helps us to
remain secure in our faith, the apostle reminds us, is worth doing.
I have a wall hanging in my office with this verse engraved on it. It's a
contemporary wall hanging. It's done in a fashion that is colorful and
alive. And it's engraved on the very word, "Whatever," as a reminder of how
Jesus has called us to live, and where my focus in life needs to remain. On
the wall hanging, there's a final note (which is not part of the verse) that
fits well. It says: "Remember.God is with you - whatever, whenever,
wherever, forever!" That's a good reminder for today and every day:
"Whatever!"

Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you and to focus our lives and our
attention on that which builds up and encourages others. You have also
called us to faith and to place our trust in what you have accomplished for
us on the cross. Help me to fix my thoughts and attention on whatever is
pleasing in your sight. Help me to say things to others that can be used in
whatever ways you choose to build your kingdom. Help me to do things with
whatever time and energies I have that will build up and not tear down. And
help me to remember that YOU ARE WITH ME - WHATEVER, WHENEVER, WHEREVER,
FOREVER! Amen.
