I have been VERY remiss in sending devotions when it has been my day.
And today isn't even my day, but I find that I actually have something to
share. Here it is:
I am preparing for a group of new members to be received into the membership
of Christ the Good Shepherd, and so I am going over the rite of "Affirmation
of Baptism". All these years I took it mostly to mean that the new members
are affirming their baptism and promise to continue in the covenant God made
with them in their baptism as the rite says.
But suddenly it dawned on me that even more important is the affirmation by
the faith community who needs to say the baptismal words that God spoke to
Jesus and to each one of us: "You are my beloved. With you I am well
pleased." To say and affirm this on behalf of God is perhaps the most
important part of the affirmation of Baptism.
